Buddha Sakyamuni

Buddha Sakyamuni is of great importance alongside the Dhyani Buddhas. He is regarded by Nepalese Buddhists as the second Dhyani Buddha. Buddha Sakyamuni comes from the blue syllable Hum. He is two-armed and one-sided and displays the Bushuparsa (touching the earth) mudra, which means invoking the earth as a witness and sitting in the Vajraparyanka pose. He represents the cosmic primordial element of Vijnana (consciousness). When he is depicted in the stupa, he always faces east. His left hand rests on his lap, while the right rests on his right knee, with the tip of the middle fingers touching the ground and the palm turned inwards.
